An ambulance driver is accused of running a stop sign in Granite City and causing a collision.
Angela Osorio filed a lawsuit on Nov. 23 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Abbott Ambulance, Inc., American Medical Response of Illinois, Inc. and Shernice L. Johnson.
According to the complaint, Osorio was a passenger in a motor vehicle that was traveling northbound on Madison Avenue on Nov. 20, 2019. At the same time, Johnson was driving an ambulance at the intersection of Madison Avenue and 21st Street. Osorio claims the vehicle she was riding in had the right-of-way through the intersection when Johnson failed to yield to a stop sign and struck the vehicle Osorio was in.
Osorio claims Johnson failed in stopping the ambulance before proceeding into the intersection, failed to maintain proper lookout for other vehicles, failed to reduce speed and failed to maintain control of the ambulance to avoid collision.
Osorio alleges she was caused to suffer serious and permanent injuries, including disability and loss of a normal life, loss of wages, loss of future earning capacity, medical bills and will continue to suffer damages in the future.
Osorio seeks a sum in excess of $50,000, plus costs of court.
