A Granite City woman is being sued after her Rottweiler allegedly attacked a child playing in her yard.
Jacob Johnson Sr., individually and as natural father and next friend of minor Jacob Johnson Jr., filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against Victoria Loving-Fisher.
According to the complaint, Johnson Jr. was a guest at Loving-Fisher’s Granite City home to play with her minor son and other children in the yard. The defendant owned a Rottweiler dog that was allegedly kept in a cage or kennel in the garage. The suit states that while Johnson Jr. was playing, the dog was released or managed to get loose from its cage and “attacked, struck down, bit chewed and dragged plaintiff’s minor around by his leg.” As a result, Johnson Jr. suffered severe injuries to his right leg, foot and other parts of his body.
Johnson Sr. alleges the dog acted without provocation.
The suit states that Johnson Jr. suffered permanent and progressive injuries, bodily pain and disability, and loss of a normal life. He also sustained medical expenses for treatment of his injuries.
The plaintiffs seek compensation in excess of $50,000, plus court costs.
