A Metro bus passenger claims she was injured when the bus stopped abruptly in East St. Louis.
The lawsuit was filed in the St. Clair County Circuit Court by Regina Crisp against the Bi-State Development Agency, also known as Metro.
Crisp alleges she was injured when a Metro bus abruptly stopped while she was a passenger. The incident occurred on Oct. 30, 2023, as the bus was traveling westbound on State Street at its intersection with 18th Street in East St. Louis.
The complaint states that Metro violated its duty to protect passengers from injury by failing to stop at a stop sign, failing to keep a proper lookout for other vehicles, failing to yield right of way, stopping the bus abruptly, braking too quickly under the conditions present, failing to warn passengers of an imminent stop, and failing to maintain control of the bus.
As a result of these alleged negligent acts or omissions, Crisp claims she was thrown forward violently inside the bus and suffered bodily injuries.
The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 for pain and suffering, medical bills, disability and disfigurement, loss of income, and loss of a normal life.
