A patient claims she required a hysterectomy after her condition was misdiagnosed.
The lawsuit was filed in the St. Clair County Circuit Court by plaintiff Martah Ritchie against St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Premier Pathology Services, LLC, and Dr. Stephen M. Olson.
According to the complaint, the defendants failed to properly treat Ritchie’s adenocarcinoma in-situ, leading to unnecessary surgery including a hysterectomy. The plaintiff alleges the defendants negligently performing a histopathological examination, reading pathology slides, diagnosing her condition, and causing additional surgery to be performed.
As a result of these alleged negligent acts or omissions, Ritchie claims she has suffered permanent pain, mental anguish, disability, disfigurement, loss of wages, and loss of income. She also states that she has incurred substantial hospital and medical expenses.
Ritchie seeks damages in excess of $75,000, plus all other relief the court deems just.
