The family of a patient at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital claim medical professionals failed to monitor the decedent for sepsis.
Theresa Ligibel, as special representative of the Estate of Courtney Ligibel, deceased, filed a complaint in the St. Clair Circuit Court against St. Elizabeth’s Hospital of The Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis and James Coleman, PA-C, alleging medial negligence and other claims.
According to her complaint, Theresa Ligibel’s daughter, Courtney Ligibel, was under the care of Coleman on April 2, 2020, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. She alleges Coleman failed monitor her daughter’s condition and acknowledge several signs and symptoms of sepsis. Ligibel also alleges Coleman did not administer the proper tests to screen for sepsis and that his actions lead to the death of Courtney Ligibel.
The plaintiff claims St. Elizabeth was negligent for failing to train and supervise Coleman and others to ensure they were qualified for diagnosing and treating medical conditions.
Ligibel seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, interest and all other just relief.
